Launch Promotions with Affiliates

Launch Promotions with Affiliates

A launch without coordinated affiliate promotion leaves significant revenue on the table. When your affiliates mail and post in waves throughout your launch window, you create compounding momentum that no amount of your own marketing can replicate. The key is treating your affiliate promotion as a parallel campaign that runs alongside your main launch.

Designing Affiliate Contests

Contests tap into competitive drive and provide additional incentive beyond standard commissions. Structure your contest around your launch window — typically 7-14 days — with clear rules, transparent tracking, and desirable prizes.

Prize Selection matters more than you might think. Cash bonuses work universally: $500 for first place, $250 for second, $100 for third. But experiential prizes often motivate more: a one-on-one consulting session with you, access to a premium program you don’t sell publicly, or a ticket to an industry event. Mix monetary and value-based prizes to appeal to different affiliate motivations.

Tiered Prize Structures keep mid-tier affiliates engaged. If only the top three win anything, affiliates in fourth through tenth place lose motivation once they realize they can’t catch the leaders. Instead, create tiers: top three get premium prizes, top ten get a meaningful bonus, and anyone who hits a minimum threshold (say, 10 sales) gets a smaller reward or recognition. This keeps the competitive energy distributed across more participants rather than concentrated at the very top.

Leaderboard Psychology

Public leaderboards create healthy competition. Update your leaderboard daily during the launch window and share it in your affiliate communication channel. Most affiliates won’t admit they check the leaderboard, but they do — often multiple times per day. Seeing themselves at position seven motivates a push to reach position five. Seeing a competitor just ahead creates urgency to send one more email.

Be transparent about the data: show total sales, total revenue, and sometimes conversion rates (with the affiliate’s permission). Anonymize if requested, though most affiliates during an active contest want the recognition that comes with public ranking.

Pre-Launch Affiliate Briefing

Send your affiliates a comprehensive briefing 2-3 weeks before launch. This should include: the exact launch timeline with cart open and close dates, your promotional schedule so they can align their sends, suggested angles they can take (different affiliates can emphasize different aspects of your course), any exclusive bonuses they can offer their audience, and clear instructions on where to find all swipe copy and assets.

Consider hosting a live briefing call for your top affiliates. A 30-minute Zoom where you walk through the offer, answer questions, and let affiliates hear your excitement directly increases their conviction. Record it for affiliates who can’t attend live.

During-Launch Communication

Your affiliates need support throughout the launch, not just at the beginning. Send daily updates during the active promotion window: leaderboard standings, what’s working well for top performers, any objections or questions coming up that they should address, and fresh swipe copy tailored to that specific day’s angle.

If you’re running webinar-based promotions, give affiliates the exact times and remind them to mail before each webinar. If you’re doing daily videos, provide affiliates with the key point from each day’s content so they can reference it in their follow-ups.

Post-Launch Execution

The launch ending isn’t the finish line — it’s the beginning of your next launch’s success. Within 48 hours of cart close, announce contest winners publicly in your affiliate channel. Tag them, celebrate their results, and make a big deal of it. This public recognition is prize enough for some affiliates and motivates them to go harder next time.

Pay commissions promptly. If your platform allows, process affiliate payments within a week of launch close. Delayed payments erode trust and make affiliates hesitant to promote your next launch. Platforms like GoHighLevel, Thrivecart, and Teachable handle automated commission payouts. Post Affiliate Pro, Refersion, and ClickBank also offer streamlined payment processing.

Send personalized thank-you messages to every affiliate who made at least one sale. For your top performers, send something tangible: a handwritten note, a small gift, or a video message expressing genuine gratitude. These gestures compound over multiple launches.
