GoHighLevel — The All-in-One Powerhouse

GoHighLevel (GHL) was built as a marketing and CRM platform that has grown into a full course creation and community platform. What started as a tool for agencies has become one of the most complete platforms available for course creators who want everything in one place.

That matters because most course creators end up paying for five or six separate tools. GHL replaces all of them.

What GHL Does Well

Everything except the kitchen sink. GHL combines the following:

  • Course/membership builder — Upload videos directly (no external hosting needed), create modules with drag-and-drop reordering, drip content on schedules, build quizzes and assignments with passing grades, issue completion certificates
  • CRM — Full customer relationship management with contact records, pipelines, and deal tracking
  • Email marketing — Broadcasts, automated sequences, segmentation, templates
  • SMS marketing — Text messaging to contacts (usage-based pricing)
  • Funnel builder — Landing pages, opt-in pages, sales pages, checkout pages, webinar pages
  • Calendar booking — Schedule sales calls, coaching sessions, consultations
  • Community — GHL Communities with groups, channels, events, GoLive streaming, gamification with leaderboards and rewards
  • Quiz builder — Two systems: assessments inside courses (passing grades, multiple attempts, analytics) and a separate lead-gen quiz builder (Sites > Quizzes) with scoring, categories, branching logic, and CRM mapping
  • Webinar funnels — Live webinars with scheduled dates and on-demand evergreen webinars, both with automated email/SMS reminders and follow-up sequences
  • Automation workflows — Trigger-based automation that connects everything
  • Affiliate management — Built-in affiliate tracking and commission payouts
  • Reputation management — Request and manage Google/Facebook reviews
  • Website builder — Full website with blog, not just course pages
  • AI Employee — Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, Content AI ($97/mo per sub-account for unlimited, or pay-per-use)

If you were to replicate this stack with separate tools, you’d need Teachable ($89/mo) + ActiveCampaign ($49/mo) + ClickFunnels ($97/mo) + Calendly ($12/mo) + Community platform ($49/mo) + SMS tool ($25/mo) = roughly $320/month. GHL Unlimited gives you all of it for $297/month.

Pricing

PlanMonthlyAnnualWhat You Get
Starter$97/mo$970/yr3 sub-accounts, unlimited contacts, unlimited users, all core features including courses, communities, funnels, CRM, email, SMS
Unlimited$297/mo$2,970/yrEverything in Starter + unlimited sub-accounts + rebill phone & email at cost + user/agent reporting + basic API access

Transaction fees: None. You keep what you earn (minus Stripe/PayPal processing fees).

Usage-based costs: Email, SMS, phone calls, and AI features are usage-based on all plans. Email costs $0.675 per 1,000 emails. Phone and SMS use Twilio-equivalent rates. These charges come from your Agency Wallet. On the Unlimited plan, you can rebill these costs to sub-accounts at cost. On the Pro plan, you can rebill with your own markup.

Where GHL Falls Short

Design flexibility. While the course builder has come a long way — drag-and-drop module reordering, native quizzes with scoring and analytics, assignments with file uploads, customizable certificates — the design templates themselves are not as polished as Kajabi’s. If pixel-perfect student-facing design is your top priority, Kajabi still has an edge.

Learning curve. Because GHL does everything, the interface is overwhelming at first. Expect 2 to 4 weeks of learning before you are comfortable. Once you know it, you never need another tool. GHL offers a free Course Creator’s Playbook inside HighLevel University (Agency View > University) that walks you through the setup.

Support structure. Official support exists, but the fastest help often comes from the GHL Facebook group and YouTube community. If you want hand-holding, consider the courses on setting up GHL or a consulting call.

Who Should Choose GHL

  • Creators building a full business — not just a single course. You want email lists, funnels, sales calls, and community too.
  • Creators who hate managing multiple tools — if logging into five different platforms every week sounds miserable, GHL consolidates everything
  • Creators who want to scale — GHL’s automation and CRM grow with you from your first course to a full product suite with affiliate partners
  • Budget-conscious creators doing the math — when you add up what you would spend on separate tools, GHL is often cheaper
  • Creators who need quizzes and assessments — GHL has a full native quiz system with passing grades, multiple attempts, and analytics built in

Who Should Skip GHL

  • Creators who want the prettiest student experience — Kajabi wins here
  • Creators building one simple course — if you just need to host 10 video lessons, Teachable or Thinkific is faster to set up
  • Creators who are intimidated by tech — GHL’s learning curve is real. If you want something you can figure out in an afternoon, start with Teachable

The Bottom Line

GHL is our top recommendation for most course creators because most creators need more than just a course host. They need email marketing, landing pages, payment processing, and a way to manage student relationships. GHL does all of that in one place, with no transaction fees, at a price that beats the combined cost of separate tools.

The course builder handles everything most creators need — video hosting, quizzes, assignments, certificates, drip scheduling, and community. Combined with the marketing and sales infrastructure around it, nothing else comes close for the price.

Keep going — you're making progress through Pick Your Platform.
